On May 27, 2012 Kristin and Andrew gathered with 140 of their friends to celebrate their union in the beautiful jewel of the Maine coast, a town better known as Camden.

You may remember these two and their pup from their engagement photos in Marblehead http://nathanfriedlipskiphotography.wordpress.com/2011/12/04/andrew-and-kristin-at-devereaux-beach-in-marblehead/

Hair and Makeup for Kristin and her bridesmaids was done by Melissa Ligeza of Belle’s Ball, http://www.bellesball.com/.

Andrew and his groomsmen were styling in their light khaki colored suits and LL Bean Topsiders.

Guests gathered for the ceremony, held outside at the Camden Library Amphitheatre overlooking Camden harbor.

No wedding is complete without man’s best friend! Meli, Andrew & Kristin’s Boston terrier, was also in attendance

Close friend of the couple, Laura Oswald, officiated Andrew & Kristin’s nuptials.

Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hench!

In all of the excitement that surrounds a wedding day, they still had time to share some personal moments.

The wedding party arrived by boat to the reception, held at the Camden Yacht Club where the tent and catering were provided by Trillium www.trilliumcaterers.com.

Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love” played as they danced to their first song as a newlywed couple, and the band Green Line Inbound  http://greenlineinbound.com made the trip from Boston to play for the night.

Congratulations Kristin and Andrew, let the sparks fly!

Kendra and Jay married at Willowdale Estate

Willowdale Estate, a beautiful stone mansion tucked inside Bradley Palmer State Park in Topsfield, Ma. was a perfect location for Kendra Champion and Jay Miller to be married.

Jay being from Marblehead, and Kendra from Swampscott, it was only right that they were married in the North Shore. This old style mansion had all the charm that you could ask for.

With 99 of their closest friends and family in attendance, Kendra’s brother Adam performed the ceremony in the atrium.

Congratulations Kendra and Jay!

Sad fish Happy bird

This morning I left the house to run some errands and drop some items off to clients and brought my camera along with me as I usually do.  Sometimes I see something interesting along the way, and sometimes I take a detour to visit a spot where I might see something.

Mt. Auburn Cemetery is one of my usual stops when I am on the other side of the river, and today turned out to be a good day to be there.

There was a lone blue heron who came out from hiding in the trees to feast.

I had been siting still by the edge of the water for over a half hour. In time, the bird walked directly over to me and began hunting.

First a small fish

Scooped up a frog next.

Then a good sized fish.

After a meal like that it was time to head in to the trees to catch some sun.

“To a man, ornithologists are tall, slender, and bearded so that they can stand motionless for hours, imitating kindly trees, as they watch for birds.”

Pigeons in flight

I came across this grid I made of pigeons in flight from my old apartment.

Shooting these photos really really helped me to get an idea of how they maneuver  while they fly.

Mud football anyone?

Its wet out there…

I’m sitting here listening to all this rain hit the roof as I am editing and moving files around, I came across these mud football photos from a few years ago.

Today would be a good day for a game.

I remember shooting this event, slipping all over the place and trying not to get my gear covered in mud.

Not a huge spectator sport I guess, but I was well entertained.

These guys were really going for it out there!

I’d like to get back up there to shoot it again if anyone wants to take a field trip in the spring.

Hey, at least we aren’t all covered in mud.

I feel for all of you out shooting today.

Stay dry out there.

Tegan and Toph, engagement on Martha’s Vineyard

This weekend I joined Tegan and Toph on a quick trip to Martha’s Vineyard to visit Tegan’s grandparents in Chillmark and shoot some engagement photos.

I knew it was going to be a good trip, they were ready for photos on the ferry to the Vineyard…..as soon as the Bruins game was over that is.

The weather was on our side the whole time. How strange to have these temperatures in January, we weren’t complaining.

The property around Tegan’s grandparents house was natural and beautiful. We headed out to the dock after breakfast for a few shots before heading to “The Camp”, an old duck hunting camp built in the 1920s on what is called Long Point, or Thumb Pond.

These guys cracked me up. They have been together for 6 years and  seem to be always having fun.

After breakfast and a few shots down on the docks, we headed out to “The Camp”, an old duck hunting camp built in the 1920s on Thumb Pond in West Tisbury.

Toph proposed to Tegan just beyond the rocks they are standing on one afternoon as she sat in an inner tube scrubbing oysters.

It was a nice time of year to be out there,  a refreshing break from city life.

I had a blast working with them and can’t wait until the wedding out there this September.

Congratulations Teg and Toph!

13 hole bird commissioned bird house

•December 21, 2011 • 1 Comment

I was presented with the challenge of  incorporating all of these old and expensive wine box pieces in to a large, multi-holed bird house. The client needs the house for a christmas present for her boss, so today was pretty much my deadline.

Here is what I came up with.

A 13 hole house with three hinged parts. I was able to blend the materials provided to me with my style of bird house building to come up with this design.

Found copper tubing and bicycle spokes provide perches for the birds.

It was great that I was given the scarecrow box to use.

Below is the front view.

Some rope I found on the beach in Marblehead holds the back lid shut.

Below is the back view.

Below are two views of the cover and access to the 5 top level holes when the rear lid is open.

The bottom has 8 holes and is can be accessed by tilting the top back and tilting the bottom-most hinged flap forward.

Most of the additional pieces are things I picked up off the streets in Boston, although some were found at antique shops.

I am really happy with the way it turned out over all.
